Robust Assessment

TESTING SERVICE

HOGAN

Hogan Assessments enable you to assess the personality of a candidate in the workplace.

The suite of assessments measure personality characteristics, risk of career derailment, core values and cognitive style.

There are various assessments known as HPI, HDS and MVPI. They consist of brief statements using true/ false or agree/ disagree responses and on average take a maximum of 20 mins to complete.

The additional HBRI assessment has 24 questions and typically takes 35 minutes to complete.

The HPI assessment is used to measure candidates normal or ‘bright side’ personality. Specifically it looks at a candidate’s behaviours exhibited in the workplace under normal or everyday conditions.

Correspondingly the HDS assessment evaluates a candidate’s personality during times of stress which is referred to as ‘dark side personality’. It purposely assesses how a candidate manages relationships and issues in times of crisis.

The MVPI looks at the motives behind a candidate’s personality traits. It looks at an individual’s values, core goals, drivers and interests so an employer can see what motivates you and in what role, position and environment you will be most successful.

The HBRI or reasoning inventory looks at cognitive abilities and skills. It focuses on one’s ability to evaluate data, solve problems and make decisions.

Finally the Hogan Judgement assessments measure a candidates approach to decision making, post decision reaction and response to negative feedback. It also measures verbal and numerical reasoning and from all, employers can evaluate one’s ability to learn, adapt and decide.

All results are provided in differing formats. The most relevant being Hogan Select (for informed hiring decisions), Hogan Develop (greater insight than an interview would deliver) and Hogan Lead (enables you to find future leaders and facilitates better management of teams).

When combined with the more subjective methods such as competence interviewing, risk assessment and back reference Hogan provides the missing piece in providing a 360 degree

This is a highly strategic talent management service. The service being designed to support clients in their continual pursuit of enabling growth, managing risk and raising the talent bar to enhance competitiveness.

Functionally it creates comprehensive talent pipelines that raise existing capability, facilitate headcount growth, deliver planned change and provide protection against known or unexpected ‘surprise’ leavers.

Traditionally companies have developed various talent management models and processes. The most thorough identifying potential talent nationally, territorially and globally and through a process of uniform assessments, calibration and discussion ultimately plotting each individual within a 9 box talent grid with axis’s   comparing performance and potential.

With the grid completed for each function and at agreed levels an internal pool of talent succession is established with the criteria ready now, ready in one year placed against for each individual.

Although the internal model would satisfy certain aspects of growth and protection it is limited in various ways. As a top line of the limitations, pure internal succession pipelines solely rely on the capability of talent that currently resides within the company. Also as its’ internal only, the pool of talent is relatively small and often of limited choice.

Until recently, external talent succession pipelining to provide greater talent pools and options using a similar process to that expressed above were regarded as costly. However the thinking is changing. The change driven by the dynamically evolving market conditions, new digitally driven models, fresh previously unseen titles and a strong resurgence in the war for talent with associated targeted headhunting activity of individuals and teams highlighting all the competitive advantages that hiring top talent can provide.

External talent succession pipelines are built using the same robust research, mapping, attraction and assessment processes seen in search on a private and confidential basis. As in the case of the internal process, each candidate is assessed, calibrated and plotted into a 9 box grid and placed in an external talent pool and titled ready now, ready in one year.

The results of the collaborative approach are numerous. The most significant being there will be a broader talent pool to select from. The relative ease of comparing internal and external candidate options. The reduction in time to hire.

    Although I am a believer in work/life balance and encourage my team to live such a value, personally I am never far from thinking about how we can do things better. When I do get chance, my interests as a passionate Welshman are rugby (any code!), golf and over the last 3 years distance running where I have completed numerous road races for our chosen charity across the UK.

Following graduating in languages at the University of York and an early career in retail and commercial radio, I went straight into search. That was in 2011 and I can safely say my feet have rarely touched the ground since.

    I specialise at the senior end of all Commercial and Operations disciplines across the fashion, denim, lifestyle, accessory and sports sub markets internationally. I travel frequently, have customers and have made placements all over the world and have been fortunate enough to build up vast knowledge of my space combined with global candidate connectivity.

    As my work is hectic in nature, I love to try (!) and relax a little in my spare time. I enjoy live music, cooking (and posting foodie pictures on Instagram, obviously!) and travelling. Having completed a number of distance runs on behalf of PartnerWise’s chosen charities, I can often be found leaving the office at night with a rucksack on my back, ready to run home and get some training in!

Hogan personality and behavioural testing is also available should you wish to attain an even more in depth assessment.

Unlike many of our competitors, we are also happy to share along the route full details of our research in a candidate tracker format. The primarily use of the tracker is to easily update you on progress. Moreover it also provides insight around competitors, their structures, salary levels and perceptions of your employer brand and role in question.

Over and above the rigorous assessment conducted, a significant element of successful talent acquisition requires sensitivity and personal consideration. We see it as a balance of identifying, attracting, qualifying and assessing whilst also taking the time to carefully manage the emotional journey of the candidate, and often their partner, when they care considering making a life-changing career decision.
