Leaders in Sport 2023

17th October 2023

A Glimpse into Leaders Week London 2023: Shaping the Future of Sports

In October 2023, two of our team members, Andy, Global Partner – Sporting Events and John, Global Senior Partner – Sporting Goods and Active Outdoors, had the privilege of attending the prestigious Leaders in Sport event 2023 held at Twickenham Stadium. This gathering brought together over 3,000 sports executives from around the world for a week filled with memorable experiences and insightful discussions about the future of sports.

The event kicked off with an exciting awards ceremony on the evening of the 17th setting the stage for two days of learning and enlightenment. Leaders in Sport didn’t disappoint, providing attendees with a deep dive into the latest trends and topics shaping the sports industry.

Here are some key takeaways from the event:

Women’s Sport Breakthrough:

One of the standout topics discussed at Leaders Week London was the incredible growth and untapped potential of women’s sports. The industry is striving to do things differently, with a strong focus on growing the fan base, increasing attendance, attracting investment, diversifying revenue streams, and establishing partnerships and sponsorships. The goal is to enhance participation at the grassroots level, build leagues and brands from scratch, and ultimately make women’s sports a dominant force in the world of sports.

Middle East Sports Surge:

The Middle East has witnessed dramatic growth in sports, particularly football, within a relatively short span of time. This growth extends to grassroots participation and increased diversity in women’s sports and football. However, it was acknowledged that there’s still work to be done in improving the overall sporting infrastructure, including stadiums and training facilities, to match the region’s growing enthusiasm for sports.

Fan-Centric Approach:

A fan-centric approach has become a top priority in the sports industry. The emphasis is on using data-driven insights to identify revenue opportunities, connecting fans with their favourite teams, athletes, clubs, and brands on a global scale. Creating comprehensive fan profiles enables better personalised connections with each individual, both in-person and digitally, ensuring an improved fan journey.

Tech Adoption:

Technology is playing a pivotal role in transforming the sporting landscape. Innovations are focused on improving the infrastructure that supports the sporting ecosystem, aligning closely with the fan-centric approach. The goal is to create immersive experiences for fans, enhancing their connection to the sport they love.

Leaders in Sport provided a platform for industry leaders and experts to share their insights and strategies for shaping the future of sports. It was an eye-opening experience for all attendees, including our team members, Andy and John, who came away with a wealth of knowledge and inspiration.

In conclusion, Leaders Week London 2023 was a testament to the dynamic and ever-evolving nature of the sports industry. It showcased the commitment of sports professionals worldwide to make sports more inclusive, engaging, and technologically advanced. With the insights gained at this event, the sports world is poised to embark on an exciting journey towards a brighter and more fan-focused future.
